Corner Store: Shop Manager

You are the manager of a corner store the size of one room.

Every morning you fill in the order sheet. Milk, bread, crisps, cola, whatever you think today wants. Then the doors open, and you find out.

The whole game is the order sheet. Once the shift starts you cannot change your mind. Shoppers come in, take what they came for, queue at the till and pay. If a shelf is empty they leave without buying. If the queue gets too long they leave anyway. You get three trips to the back room and no more. A shift takes about three minutes.

The till roll. At close the receipt prints out of the register, one line at a time, in the order the sales happened. Every sale, every walkout, every crate of milk that went off before anyone bought it. Then the total.

What makes it hard. Demand moves. Milk sells in the morning, crisps sell at night, and by shift twenty last week's order sheet is a bad guess. New stock lines keep unlocking but the shelf only holds ten, so ordering becomes a question of what to leave out.

• Mouse: click + and - on the order sheet, then the big buttons. Everything is one click.

• If you go broke, "Call the wholesaler" (a credit line) is a free button here. It only shows up when you are stuck.
