Slumlord

You own twelve flats on Bellweather Row. The roof leaks, the boiler is older than one of your tenants, and the rent lands on the first of every month whatever you do about it.

Slumlord is a landlord sim about the gap between what a building needs and what you feel like paying for. Every month, people write to you. The window that opens four inches. The smoke alarm that came away in someone's hand. You get three buttons: fix it, stall it, or refuse it.

Fixing costs money now. Stalling costs nothing and costs you later. Refusing closes the ticket and leaves the hole exactly where it was, and the tenant never quite forgets.

The council is a real opponent. Every unanswered complaint raises how interested the housing team is in your address, and you can see that number before you end the month. The inspector who turns up has a type, and you are told which one before you decide to do the work, contest it, or send a very generous gift basket.

Tenants are people. Twenty-eight of them, with names, jobs and patience that runs out at different speeds. Neglecting the tenant who never complains is the cheapest thing you can do this month and the most expensive thing you can do this year.

The money. Rent, mortgages, insurance that climbs as the building rots, and the real question under all of it: milk this block, renovate it, or sell it to someone worse than you? Fix everything and you retire comfortable and small. Fix nothing and the council has your buildings before year two. Everything interesting is in between.
